A man is in hospital after an assault in Dublin city last night.

It happened on Robert Emmet Walk in Dublin 8 between 10:30pm and 11pm.

The victim (58) was later found on Cork Street at around 12:20am and rushed to St James's Hospital.

He is in a stable condition. The gunmen made their getaway in a dark coloured car in the direction of Ballsbridge.

Both scenes have been preserved for technical examinations.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack - or who may have seen this dark coloured car in the vicinity - to contact Pearse Street garda station.
