Irish peacekeepers are safe after Israel's airstrikes in Lebanon, which killed two people including a child.
Israel retaliated to rockets fired from Lebanese territory into Israel but Hezbollah denies involvement.
Security and Defence Analyst Declan Power said the conflict could get worse as a result.
"Whether it was Hezbollah that fired the rockets or not, this seems to be an Israeli overreaction," he said.
"It certainly has the potential to escalate tensions in the Middle East in general."

Meanwhile, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said there will be no let up in the attacks against Hamas in Gaza.
The Gaza Minister has reported that 634 people have died in the war-torn state since Tuesday.
Executive Director of UNICEF Ireland Peter Power has said UNICEF is appalled by the "ongoing and senseless loss of life in Gaza".
"Over 200 completely innocent children have been killed this week," he said.
"It's unconscionable and it must stop immediately."
130 people have lost their lives in the last 72 hours with over 11 hundred reportedly injured.
