Gardaí investigating the robbery of an 86 year old man in Monaghan yesterday have charged a 42 year old man in connection with the incident.

He will appear before a special sitting of Cavan District at 8pm this evening.

The other man arrested in connection with this incident has been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Just before 5pm on Friday, a jeep near Scotch Corner in Co. Monaghan, signaled for the 86 year old man to stop his car.

When he pulled over a man claiming to be a Garda approached him.

The elderly man's wallet was then stolen and the thief made off in the jeep.

Investigations are continuing.
