Two men are this evening beginning life sentences for the murder of a Brazilian man and dumping his body in a bog in north Kerry.
The body of 28-year-old Bruno Lemes De Sousa was discovered in Shronowen Bog outside Listowel on March 11th 2012.
20-year-old John-Paul Cawley, and 29-year-old Wenio Rodriguez Da Silva, both with an address at 2 Ardoughter in Ballyduff, were today found guilty of his murder between February 16th and 17th 2012.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder. However John-Paul Cawley pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The court heard that sometime after Bruno arrived at the house in Ballyduff he was assaulted by both Wenio and John Paul. His hands were bound before he was put in the attic.
Victim stabbed 64 times
He was then put into a car and brought to the bog where he was brutally stabbed 64 times. His body was discovered by Gardai during a planned search on March 11th 2012 lying face up in a pool of water.
During the trial the court heard both men admitted to killing Bruno. No real motive was established for the killing.
It took the jury just over an hour and a half to find both men guilty of murder. Judge Garrett Sheehan imposed the mandatory life sentences on both men.
Bruno's girlfriend Patricia de Silva attended the majority of the case but did not make any comment following the verdict. While none of Wenio or John-Paul's family or friends were in court today.
