Two men in their 20s have died in a road crash in Co. Kildare.

The pair were killed instantly when the car they were travelling in lost control and collided with a tree on the Derrinturn to Allenwood road yesterday evening.

In total, five people have died and two others remain in a serious condition in hospital following a series of car crashes over the weekend.

A 22-year-old man died in hospital overnight following a crash in County Meath on Saturday. Another 24 year old man is in a stable condition following the collision which happened in Oldcastle at around 4 in the morning.

It has been one of the worst weekends this year on Irish roads as the seventh annual Road Safety week begins today.
