One pedestrian has died while another has been hospitalised following a collision that took place in Letterkenny, County Donegal.

The crash took place at around 3am on Lower Main Street this morning, after which the two men hit by the car were brought to Letterkenny University Hospital with serious injuries.

A man aged in his 60’s who was seriously injured in the collision passed away at Letterkenny University Hospital earlier today.

The second pedestrian, a man also aged in his 60’s, has been airlifted to Galway University Hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment.

The driver of the car, a male aged in his late teens, was arrested at the scene and remains in Garda custody.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

The matter has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission due to an earlier interaction between Gardaí and the driver.

As a mark of respect, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Letterkenny has been cancelled.
