An elderly woman is in a serious condition in hospital following a fatal house fire in Dublin yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze on Sigurd Road in Stoneybatter just after 7pm.
A 53-year-old man was taken from the property and rushed to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The woman is being treated for serious injuries at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.
A technical examination will be carried out at the scene this morning.
Separately, in Co Kilkenny yesterday a man in his 90s lost his life in a house fire. Gardaí were notified of the fire at a house in Uskerty on the Castlecomer to Carlow Road shortly after midday.
Gardaí in Castlecomer say they are investigating, but are not treating the death as suspicious.
