They were travelling into two separate cars which collided on the N26 near Ballina at about five o'clock this morning.

Their bodies have been removed to Mayo General Hospital - where post mortem examinations will be carried out later today.

The N26 between Ballina and Swinford is likely to remain closed for several hours today - as forensic crash investigators examine the scene.
