Two teenagers have been arrested by Gardaí investigating a serious Mullingar assault that left a man in critical condition in hospital.
A man in his 30s was discovered with serious injuries on Grove Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Gardaí this morning arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with the assault.
They are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda Station in the Midlands.
Meanwhile, Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the attack.
They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the Grove Street and Mullingar Town Centre areas between 12.30am and 1.30am and may have camera footage.
It is understood Gardaí are also concerned about misinformation circulating online regarding the attack.
The two arrested teenagers are Irish citizens and are not connected in any way to International Protection.
Gardaí are appealing to the public to independently verify any information published on social media and/or messaging apps.
