Two women and a dog have died following an attack on Christmas Day in Milton Keynes, England. 

A man and a teenage boy were also hospitalised but are now understood to be in a stable condition. 

At 6.30pm, police were called to a block of apartments in Santa Cruz Avenue and the two women, who were 38 and 24, were pronounced dead at the scene. 

A 49-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody. 

"Firstly, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of the women who have tragically died in this shocking incident,” Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin said. 

"We have launched a double murder investigation, which may be concerning to the wider public. 

“However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and the parties are known to each other."

The two women’s next of kin have been informed of their deaths.
