Two women have been arrested in New York City, accused of planning to build a bomb to attack the United States.

Counter-terror officers believe the pair - aged 28 and 31 - devised a plot to target police, government or military targets based on what's described as their "violent jihadist beliefs".

Police claim the women looked at Islamic State propaganda online, but they don't think they'd been in contact with the group

The pair are due in court later.
