Two men in their 20s have been hospitalised following a crash in Rathowen Village in County Westmeath.

Shortly after 2.30am this morning, Gardaí and emergency services reponded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the village.

The two male occupants of the car were transported to Tullamore Hospital with serious injuries.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the N4 at Rathowen Village is currently closed to traffic.

Diversions are in place and will affect those travelling between Mullingar and Longford, with motorists advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.
