U2 is reported to be planning to release a new album next year.

The Irish Examiner reports that close friends who have heard some of the tracks say the sound is ‘very different’.

Bono said in a recent interview that the forthcoming album will be their best in decades.

The band’s last album – No Line on the Horizon was released in 2009.
