British actor Richard Griffiths has died at the age of 65. He is recently best known for his role as uncle Vernon Dursley in Harry Potter.
He had complications following heart surgery at a hospital in Warwickshire.
In a career spanning half a century he also starred in 'The History Boys', 'Withnail and I' and 'The Naked Gun'.
Daniel Radcliffe has paid tribute saying his "encouragement, tutelage and humour" made work "a joy".
Between 1994 and 1997 he starred in the BBC series 'Pie In The Sky' as detective-turned-restaurateur Henry Crabbe. He was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008 for services to drama.
His agent Simon Beresford said "Richard brightened my days and enriched the life of anyone he came into contact with".
"On stage he allowed us to share in our own humanity and constantly question our differences. Richard gave acting a good name. He was a remarkable man and one of our greatest and best-loved actors. He will be greatly missed" he added.
