The moment a deaf woman was able to hear for the first time has been recorded. Joanne Milne (40) is from England and has been unable to hear a sound since birth.
Her sight was also affected in mid-20s and she is registered blind. Last month she was fitted with life-changing cochlear implants.
She was born with the rare condition Usher Syndrome. It is a genetic disorder that is associated with a mutation of genes, resulting in a combination of hearing loss and visual impairment.
It is seen as a leading cause of deaf-blindness
The footage was filmed by her mother at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The video has been viewed thousands of times on YouTube.
