Ukraine has signed up to a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.

Speaking after today's talks in Saudi Arabia, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "The ball is now in Russia's court" and US President Donald Trump promised he would "talk to Vladimir Putin".

"It takes two to tango, as they say," he said.

"Hopefully, he'll also agree and I really think that would be 75% of the way."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accepted the proposal and described it as a "positive step".

"During today’s talks, the US side proposed taking an even bigger first step - a 30-day full interim ceasefire," he tweeted.

"Not only stopping missile, drone and bomb attacks, not only in the Black Sea - but also along the entire front line."

He also thanked the US team for today's "constructive" talks and added that Ukraine is "ready to take this step".

Tánaiste Simon Harris echoed his remarks and said the agreement was an "important step towards achieving a just and lasting peace."

"The ball is now in Russia’s court to respond," he added.
