Another day. Another plan.
Today saw the Dept of Health fork out another €70 million to ease the crises in our emergency departments. You can guess the usual suspects. More funding for Fair Play. The 11 week wait for places will be cut to 4-6 weeks. This is good news for the patients who are waiting for places. There is money for more home care. That would be great if it works. Your own home is better then either a hospital bed or a care home. If the plan works, Leo will have achieved something.
Kathleen Lynch was on lunchtime and you can hear her here.We have a senior and a junior minister speaking off the same hymn sheet. They seem to have the tenacity to see the problem through.
I was feeling optimistic until i read the following line reporting on the plan:
It also aims to increase the number of ward rounds carried out in hospitals
Ah lads. Did we really need a task force to come up with this one?
What kind of hospital service thinks one hospital round is enough?
Cynics like me used to have to tell the government that people do not get sick between 9-5. Am I being paranoid in thinking the government is having to tell hospitals that people get better after 11am?
Watch this space and let’s hope the dynamic duo succeeds. I won’t pass judgement until we see the colour of their money.
