Unicef says Afghan landslide is still 'major tragedy' despite lower death toll

Unicef says yesterdays 'landslide in Afghanistan is still a 'major tragedy'.

That's despite the official death toll being revised downwards.

It was originally feared that around 2-thousand people lost their lives when a mudslide smashed into a village in a mountainous area in the North of the country but now it's thought that figure is more like 500.

However there are now concerns the hillside above the site of the disaster may cave in again, threatening the thousands who've been left homeless.
