Unions against Croke Park Two claim the government is scaremongering by claiming that time is running out and it should be accepted.

The 4 leading unions against the extension to the public sector agreement are holding a meeting in Dublin this evening. They are to explain to members what the new proposals mean.

It was organised by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), the Irish Medical Association, UNITE and the Garda Representative Association (GRA).

Last night the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) became the first public sector union to reject the proposals for an extension to the public service agreement.

Over two-thirds of the membership cast their vote and over 80% of those rejected the proposals for an extension to the deal.

'Our members have said enough is enough'

Speaking following the announcement of the ballot result last night TUI President Gerard Craughwell said "TUI members...have considered the LRC proposals on an extension to the current Public Service Agreement and have overwhelmingly rejected them. Our members have spoken and they have said enough is enough".

"The feedback we received from members during the ballot is that while the pay proposals are a big issue for them, a further major issue is the savage and unwarranted attack on working conditions and on the quality of public education" he added.

While Liam Doran from the INMO says the new deal unfairly penalises people on lower incomes and women in particular.
