4 of the unions who walked away from the Croke Park talks will step up their campaign of opposition today. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU) and UNITE say the €1 billion adjustment cuts are too deep.

They are now planning to launch a national campaign against the proposals before union members vote on a new deal sometime next month.

All 4 unions have recommended that its members vote against the cuts when they are balloted.

The IMO claim the proposals are designed to force doctors in public hospitals to work longer hours for less pay. A move they claim poses a danger to the lives of the patients as well as to the health and well being of the doctors themselves.

Industrial Relations Officer with the IMO is Steve Tweed. He does not think the proposed cuts are fair.

The Justice Minister meanwhile has denied that Garda unions were excluded from the recent talks on the Croke Park deal.

Alan Shatter told the Dáil yesterday that he has genuine concern for the position in which members of the force now find themselves.

The Minister says that while he and the Garda Commissioner are "always available" on matters of concern to Gardaí the negotiations have now ended and the process moves on without them.

And Minister Shatter says members should consider how well served they were by their union representatives.
