The United States has issued a worldwide travel alert to its citizens.

It's warning of the potential for terrorism particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, with a possible attack happening or coming from the Arabian Peninsula.

The information on the al Qaeda threat has also led to the closure of a number of US embassies around the world.
