University Hospital Waterford is postponing all elective procedures for a 24 hour period.

The hospital says this is due to difficulties experienced in the public water supply from one of Waterford's reservoirs.

It adds that the move is only a precautionary measure.

The hospital says it is hopeful that within 24 hours, there will be a restoration of the full water supply.

It adds that the water supply should be to the required clinical standards "allowing for the full resumption of all services" tomorrow.

The situation will be monitored closely on an on-going basis.
