Up to 900 Gardai have been tasked to police the border region for the forthcoming G8 Summit in Co Fermanagh.
In less than two weeks time eight of the world's most powerful leaders - including US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin - will arrive at the Lough Erne golf resort.
At a briefing today Gardai said they are planning for every eventuality - including the threat from dissident republicans.
Checkpoints are going up along the border, special court sittings will be laid on if needed, judges are on standby and intelligence is being assessed on a daily basis.
Assistant Commissioner Kieran Kenny says a protest is likely to be held in Dublin.
