The Honda CR-V was first launched in 1997 and since then the compact SUV has seen sales of more than 750,000. As of March the brand will be launching an updated CR-V to the market. Updates will include a new engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The new engine from Honda’s Earth Dream Technology series comes in the form of a 1.6litre i-DTEC four cylinder diesel engine. According to the manufacturer this will offer higher output than the outgoing 2.2 i-DTEC. This new engine will increase power to 160hp and torque to 360Nm.
The 2015 CR-V will also showcase the new “Honda Connect in-car audio and information system”. To improve on what they already offered they will also include DAB and internet radio. As part of the system owners will also have Bluetooth connectivity, internet browsing, SATNAV and rear-view parking camera.
Honda will also be premiering their Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control. We are told that this will predict and react to cars cutting-into lanes and much more – this system works using a camera and radar which senses other vehicles.
The new CR-V, according to Honda has had design tweaks made with Europeans in mind. The most visible change to the updated CR-V is the redesigned headlamps which flow into the new grille. The CR-V looks wider too, due to its new bumper and skid plate. The lights to the rear have also been re-designed. The compact SUV will be available with 17 or 18 inch alloy wheels.
A manual version (6-speed) of the 1.6 i-DTEC CR-V with all-wheel drive will be launched from Honda Ireland from mid-March. The 9-speed automatic transmission will arrive here in June. Prices for the CR-V will start from €47,495.
