US Vice President Joe Biden is to visit Ireland later this year. The trip was confirmed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny at a breakfast in Vice President Biden's residence in Washington this morning.
Joe Biden who claims to be "five-eights" Irish was presented with a certificate of Irish Ancestry by the government.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said Ireland was claiming Joe Biden. "Anybody who would claim he belongs to them is wrong - he belongs to us, and we're proud of it".
Mr. Kenny said he was glad to say publicly that Vice President Biden would be coming to Ireland later in the year.
"Biden is on his way" he said before expressing the hope that he would join the Vice President for a round of golf when he visits.
Mr. Kenny concludes his formal engagements in Washington today before travelling to Universal Studios for a meeting with the film director Steven Spielberg.
The Hollywood director shot part of his blockbuster 'Saving Private Ryan' in County Wexford. Enda Kenny is hoping to convince him to shoot more films in Ireland.
Speaking on St. Patrick's Day last year, Mr. Biden outlined his Irish connection.
