The United States has deployed a warship capable of shooting down missiles near North Korea.

The USS Fitzgerald will be positioned off the Korean peninsula after taking part in exercises with the South Korean navy - instead of being moved back to its base in Japan.

North Korea has threatened missle attacks against the US mainland and on Saturday declared that it had entered a state of war with the South.
