Film star Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65.

The Californian shot shot to worldwide fame when he starred in the 1980's classic Top Gun alongside Tom Cruise.

He was also widely praised for his lead role in Batman Forever and his portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors.

His daughter told the New York Times that her father passed away last night from pneumonia.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and later recovered, announcing in 2021 that he was cancer-free.
