The Taoiseach has said he is “absolutely sure” that he has the confidence of his fellow Fine Gael TDs and senators.
Leo Varadkar was speaking after several Sunday newspapers reported disquiet within Fine Gael over his leadership.
One paper suggested the Taoiseach was ‘losing his grip’ while another spoke to insiders who suggested a ‘rudderless drift’ had engulfed the party on his watch.
Meanwhile, several Fine Gael TDs who had previously shown loyalty to Mr Varadkar have announced plans to step away from politics in recent months.
“I am absolutely sure that I have the confidence of the vast majority of my parliamentary party and I have done for the past six years.”
