Sixteen new Education and Training Boards will be established today to replace 33 VECs nationwide.
The new ETBs will include 21 members, including 12 local authority representatives, 2 staff and 2 parents along with 5 members from bodies representing community and business interests.
The reform will reduce the number of Chief Executive Officers to be in line with the number of bodies, and should result in savings of 2 million euros annually.
The new configuration also paves the way for the establishment of SOLAS, with the dissolution of FÁS, and see the transfer of training functions to the newly formed Education and Training Boards. It is expected that SOLAS will be formally established before the end of this year.
