Last night, various musicians and politicians appeared at a show in Times Square in aid of World Aids Day.

Unfortunately, Bono is currently in Dublin recuperating from his injuries and couldn't attend the event but he made sure that there was certainly some amazing stand-ins for his band and a former President.

The U2 frontman sent an email to Bill Clinton telling him that he had to turn up for the gig: "Twenty-six years ago it wouldn't have been possible to have a concert in Times Square on World AIDS Day because to be diagnosed with AIDS was a death sentence. A few years ago when Secretary of State Clinton said that we could end AIDS, a lot of people didn't believe it. But this year, for the first time ever, more people were put on life-saving medicine than were diagnosed with AIDS. We are going to win this fight."

Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen stood in for Bono during the show, much to the delight of the crowd who were not expecting the surprise.

President Obama also spoke out on the issue claiming that the US has gone a long way in an attempt to win the fight against AIDS:
