Earlier this week, an informative video from International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme and Globaia visualised some of the possible global consequences of climate change if we do not make an effort to cut down on our emissions. But how do these sort of models come about, and how are scientists collecting the reams of data necessary to come to these conclusions?
The Intergovernal Panel on Climate Change has produced their own video explaining how evidence on climate change is collected, and how the results are showing "human influence on the climate is clear". It gives an in-depth but accessible explanation of how changing weather patterns, temperatures, ice melt and rising oceans are indicating that climate change is very real. It also explores why researchers are travelling to some of the coldest places on Earth to collect and understand this information.
Ultimately, the group concludes "a warming in the climate system is unequivocal" and say "limiting climate changes requires substantial and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions".
The IPCC states that two more of their working groups will be releasing results and information in 2014. For now, check out their first working group's efforts and findings in the video below:
