A bus driver in the US inadvertently picked up an unlikely passenger this week, when a deer smashed through his windscreen.

Surveillance cameras captured the moment when the bus collided with the deer which had been crossing a public road.

Fortunately the animal was unhurt, although it was quite understandably in a state of panic as it tried to find the exits.

Another stroke of fortune was the fact that the bus was virtually empty, with the exception of the driver and one passenger sitting in the back row.
