One hospital patient received a surprising visitor recently - her pet dog.
On Sunday, the dog escaped from its yard in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and walked the 15-20 block to the Mercy Medical Centre where her owner has been recovering from cancer surgery for several weeks.
CCTV footage shows Sissy enter through the main doors, sniffing around for a trail leading to owner Nancy Franck. Staff spotted the dog and checked its tag.
A call to the phone number on her collar led to Nancy's husband Dale, who explained the situation.
Sissy was soon returned home, but not before spending a few minutes with Nancy in her room.
Nancy told KWWL News it was "a big boost" to spend time with the devoted dog:
"It helped a lot just to see her and talk to her."
Though the pet had never been to the hospital before, Nancy works nearby and the family suspect she may have recognised it from a car window.
