We should only have the highest expectations of those charged with upholding our legal system, but sometimes even these guardians of justice slip up and make mistakes... like fighting outside a courtroom.
WFTV reports that judge John Murphy is accused of assaulting public defender Andrew Weinstock after a heated exchange in Florida courtroom.
Tensions rose as Weinstock refused to waive his client's right to a speedy trial.
Murphy grew increasingly irate, saying:
"You know, if I had a rock I would throw it at you right now. Stop pissing me off. Just sit down."
He then suggested that they settle the issue outside the courtroom, after which both men headed into the hall and a fight breaks out.
Weinstock claims that he intended to talk it out, but Murphy grabbed him and began hitting him. The scuffle was broken up by two deputies and the men were separated for the remainder of the day.
Charges will not be filed, but the issue will be reported to the Florida Bar.
