Cross party-TDs are being urged to support an amendment to the law to permit terminations where there’s a fatal foetal abnormality.
Independent TD Clare Daly is proposing the amendment on Friday, and TDs will vote on the matter next Tuesday.
The amendment would call for two doctors to jointly certify that there is a fatal foetal abnormality.
She said today there is huge support for allowing terminations in such cases.
"Over 50 members of the present Oireachtas, including many senior ministers, are on record as saying this legislation needs to be provided," Ms Daly said.
"We have the families giving their heartbreaking, humane reasons about why it needs to be addressed and we’ve a very considered legal opinion which says it is permissible within the confines of our Constitution. And obviously massive popular opinion in repeated opinion polls," she added.
