While ‘Baby, it’s Cold Outside’ remains a popular Christmas tune ever since it debuted nearly 70 years ago, a reading of the duet’s lyrics can appear a little worrying when viewed through a modern lens. Had the same words been written in 2014, lines like “what’s in this drink?” and “the answer is no,” would seem a lot less cutesy in a song that’s essentially about a guy refusing to let his date leave.
So much so that when a new version of the song was released by 'Frozen' star Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé, the production replaced the above lines with "was that a wink?" and "thanks for the show."
While it's easy to write this all off as killjoy political correctness gone mad, there's no denying a certain discomfort felt when watching the song's first big-screen outing in 1949's 'Neptune's Daughter':
