Boston Dynamics has grown into one of the world's most important robotic development groups in the world. Their Cheetah has managed record breaking speeds of 29 miles per hour, while their BigDog can elegantly navigate a range of challenging terrain by walking, running and climbing. The team has worked with the likes of DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), Sony and the US Army and Marine Corps.

Now, they've finally unveiled their long-teased 'WildCat'. The agile robot is not quite as fast as the older Cheetah model, or as adaptable as the BigDog. However, what makes this unique is that it is 'wireless': there is no tether linking it with its remote operator. Early tests have seen the 'bot manage around 16 MPH on flat terrain. The project is being part-funded by DARPA.

You can watch an open air trial of the very impressive machine below, said to be the 'next-generation' robot's best performance so far. You probably wouldn't want this cat chasing you down the street:
