Visitor numbers to Ireland were down last quarter by 2%
Between June and August more than 2.1 million visitors came here.
That is a decrease of 44,000 compared to the same period twelve months earlier.
Visits from the UK were down by 6% to 839,800 while journeys from the United States decreased by 2.8% to 365,300.
But visitor numbers from other European countries increased by 2.1%
And there were more tourists from other areas too .
That market grew by 3.3% to 129,800.
Meanwhile the total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the 3 months increased by 1.5% to almost 2.1 million.
But the total number of trips by Irish residents’ both overseas plus trips to Ireland in the period June to August 2012 decreased by 0.3% to 4,198,000 when compared with the same period 12 months earlier.
The period June to August 2011 saw an increase of 0.2% from the corresponding period in 2010.
