The last few years have seen a resurgence for records. Thanks to initiatives like Record Store Day, the BPI has predicted UK vinyl sales of over 700,000 by the end of the year - a ten-year high. That doesn't include the busy second hand market for classic records, which remains the lifeblood of many independent stores.

Although economic challenges and changing music consumption habits over the last ten years have seen countless record stores close for good, enthusiasts remain committed to the classic idea of an actual record store.

If you've always dreamed of owning your very own vinyl emporium, a current eBay auction might be of interest. On the Beat Records in central London has been operating since 1979, but the current owner has opted it's time to hand control to another music lover looking to experience the "High Fidelity lifestyle".

The eBay sale allows users to enter a bid or accept a 'buy it now' price of £300,000 (around €357,000). The description reads, "if you’re at the stage in your life when you don’t have to worry about making money but can live the bohemian life, meet interesting people every day and the occasional pop or rock star, here’s your chance to take over the oldest record shop in the centre of Swinging London. It’s been there for five decades, right in Soho and just around the corner from Tin Pan Alley... Without someone buying it, it will disappear."

The description concludes with the observation "I’ve given it my heart and soul for all these years but it’s time for me to step down and let another passionate music lover take over. The Beat must go on. Keep my dream alive!"

The auction describes the store as currently profitable, suggesting the new owner will be purchasing a viable business as well as a treasure trove of LPs.
