The warm weather is set to stay right through the week, according to Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly.
After a miserable July and August, Ireland is basking in sunshine today and there is plenty more to come.
On Lunchtime Live this afternoon, Alan O’Reilly said it looks like we are finally getting a belated summer.
“I just checked Valentia in County Kerry is up to 26C at 1pm so it very much feels like summer weather,” he said.
“The jet stream has finally gone north, and we have a low pressure out to the west of Spain which has brought some very heavy rain to parts of the middle of Spain the last 24 hours and it is steering up this much warmer air.”
He said things are likely to stay warm at least until Saturday, with temperatures hitting as high as 27C each day.
There will, however, be some local variation depending on the cloud cover.
“There won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine every day,” said Mr O’Reilly.
“There is a risk of a few showers in the southwest tonight and tomorrow morning, mainly impacting Kerry.
“Then, very little rain for most of the country until there is another risk of summery showers in the east on Thursday so in Dublin, you might want to keep an eye out for that on Thursday.
“But then, more sunny spells and very little showers for Friday and Saturday.”
He said there is still “a little bit of uncertainty” about the weekend.
“It does look like it will turn cooler from Sunday into early next week, but we may not see a lot of rainfall,” he said.
“If we just went from June to September and forgot about July and August we would be fine in terms of weather.”
One thing the sunshine will bring is “very warm nights” for the rest of the week.
“It’s not going to drop below 18C and 19C in some parts [at nighttime], so it will be back to kicking off the duvet and opening up the windows,” said Mr O’Reilly.
“The last few nights have been nice and fresh – for anyone that was camping at Electric Picnic it was lovely and fresh.”
