The Health Service Executive (HSE) has issued a warning after two cases of measles were confirmed in students at NUI Galway (NUIG).

Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications, particularly for children. The key symptoms to watch out for are a skin rash, high temperature, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes.

NUIG says any student who has not had two doses of MMR vaccine should be vaccinated as soon as possible.

It adds that if you have the symptoms to not come in to the University until four days after the onset of symptoms.

The HSE is working closely with NUIG to provide assistance in dealing with the outbreak.

Dr. Diarmuid O'Donovan is Public Health Director for the West. He spoke to Galway Bay FM and has this advice for people in Galway.
