People have been urged not to give details over the phone to a scam, which is falsely claiming to be the Office of the Attorney-General.
The office says members of the public may receive calls claiming to be from an official there, who makes a range of claims.
The office says it could also be displaying the phone number '631-4000'.
The caller may claim that the person has been a victim of fraud or identity theft, and that their identity has been used for drug trafficking or money laundering.
They may also claim there is a case against the person and a warrant out for their arrest.
Personal details, which can include PPS numbers and/or bank details, may also be asked for.
The Office of the Attorney-General says people should not engage with these callers, return calls to these numbers or share any personal information with them.
They should instead report the matter immediately to the Gardaí.
The Office of the Attorney-General says it does not request PPS numbers or bank account details from members of the public.
