Motorists are being advised to exercise extreme caution this morning as road temperatures are below freezing in many areas.

The AA is warning that icy conditions are a problem on motorways and secondary routes and are making conditions treacherous.

In Kildare Gardai have had to close a section of the M7 motorway between the Monasterevin and Ballybrittas junctions while they deal with a number of collisions.

Diversions are in place.

Several minor crashes have also occurred on the M2 in County Meath between the Ashbourne South and St. Margaret's junctions.

  • Ice may be lingering in many areas with particular care needed on sheltered roads.
  • Gardai warn that the N81/Templeogue Rd is very slippery between the M50 and Templeogue Village and nearby there are icy conditions all around Terenure, particularly on Terenure Rd West. 
  • Motorists are also reporting very slippery conditions at the KCR and around Rathgar.

  • Gardai are reporting icy conditions on all approaches to Kilkenny City with conditions particularly slippery on the Freshford Rd.
  • GALWAY
  • Conditions have improved around Tuam in Co. Galway.
  • ROSCOMMON
  • Icy around Roscommon Town with reports of black ice around Boyle.
  • DONEGAL
  • Icy on the Letterkenny/Glenties Rd (R250) at Meenaroy.
  • CORK
  • Treacherous conditions in Fermoy and on the N25/Waterford Rd at Midleton.

The AA is advising motorists to reduce their speed and give plenty of extra time to de-ice thier car before driving.
