The use of profanity on screen has a long and chequered past and still has an impact on how film censors around the world rate films and visual media for popular consumption. And as the YouTube channel Movie Munchies shows, the history of swearing on the silver screen can be very entertaining.

The three-minute clip below charts the debut of some of the worst offenders in offensive language, from 1929 right up to the fantastic medley of profanity uttered by Cartman in 1999’s South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
