Bertie Ahern is set to appear before the Banking Inquiry tomorrow, but it's worth looking back at some of his most inexplicable moments to date, as remembered by the internet.

When he came to [power in 1997, Bertie promised a new brand of Fianna Fáil politics. He was the youngest ever Taoiseach at the age of 45 and will go down in Irish history as one of the State's most divisive leaders.

1. Cupboard cameo

While Bertie governed in the (predominantly) pre-YouTube, pre-smartphone era - so some of his most infamous online moments came just after his time in power - like his "never thought I'd end up here" News of the World kitchen cupboard ad...

2. Well, Bill...

In 2001, the Taoiseach appeared on RTE's The Premiership - unfortunately this event is chronically under-documented online.

All that exists is a brief snippet of the Drumcondra man sitting down with Giles and Dunphy being quizzed on his years as a left back bruiser during his younger years (skip to 3:13).

"I played it hard - you had to in junior football to in junior football, there was no other way of doing it," he told the panel.

3. Hey Tony!

In 2004, Bertie Ahern appeared on an episode of Hangin' with Hector - when the Meathman shadowed the Taoiseach for a month.

The show concluded with a trip to Croke Park to see The Dubs lose to Westmeath, a chat in his office, and a few pints in Fagans.

Hector shouts 'Tony Soprano' and the twosome enter the 'Drumcondra Mafia' hotspot.

The Irish Times' review of the show described Bertie as looking "like a man trapped in the corner of a party he didn't really want to be at," throughout the show.

4. A low point

Bertie's now-infamous "cribbing and moaning" suicide comment is the sound-bite which will never go away.

This clip features both the comments and his apology - it's worth pointing out that you can hear sections of the crowd clapping and cheering after the suicide line.

5. Shameless

In the middle of the financial crisis, while no longer Taoiseach but still serving as a TD, Bertie Ahern was confronted by a lady - Joan Collins, now Joan Collins TD - asking him if he had "no shame" as he entered the Dáil for the last time in 2011.

He responded by telling RTE that there are always people who "try and get themselves on TV or radio" while he stood outside Leinster House as a small group chants, 'Shame' in the background.

6. To be sure...

Bertie pays homage to 'the Great President Bush' (a title which has a bit of a Pyongyang-twang) who he asked about military planes in Shannon "to be sure, to be sure" - while reassuring the Irish people that he had assured him that everything was above board.

7. Banana (suit) Republic

While a lot of Bertie's best moments have slipped through the net - other highlights include cracking out a yellow suit for 'casual day' with Blair, Bush, Putin et al.

8. No, no, no...

This shot horsing around with the late-Reverend Ian Paisley...

9. Who the? What the?

And this photo with a less-than-impressed child out and about in Dublin...
