Canadian musician Chilly Gonzales has posted a scathing review of Wicklow musician Hozier’s breakthrough hit Take me to Church, pointing out the alleged similarities of the huge hit single to a song by the Canadian singer-songwriter Feist.
Gonzales, who posts videos breaking down popular songs for a German radio channel, examines the 2013 hit single, and compares it to Feist’s 2011 song How Come You Never Go There.
"This sounds quite familiar to me, I must say," Gonzales says of Take me to Church, adding "This very slow and noble triple time and those sad chords. I think I know what it might be."
Playing the Feist song, Gonzales claims, "It's almost the exact same thing. That's a crazy coincidence that my good friend and musical little sister Feist with her song 'How Come You Never Go There' had the exact same idea to use those chords and that slow triple time as Hozier. What are the chances?"
“Take me to Church? Maybe Feist should take him to court," Gonzales, who collaborated and toured with Feist, concludes.
