According to Met Éireann, a funnel cloud is formed by condensed water droplets drawn in by a rotating column of wind, and is classified as a tornado if they reach the Earth’s surface.
Carlow Weatherman Alan O’Reilly said planes are circling Dublin Airport and there have been some diversions as thunderstorms continue.
Dublin Airport has confirmed all flights are operating as normal today.

This comes as a Status Orange thunderstorm and rain warning has been issued for the entire country.
Met Éireann has said thunderstorms and "very heavy showers" will see significant rainfall accumulations over short time periods.
It said the possible impacts will include flash flooding, difficult travel conditions with reduced visibility and power outages.
