After yet another mass shooting took place in the US last week, John Oliver turned his attention to the issue of mental health and how it only gets media attention after a tragedy involving gun violence.
The political line of those who want to leave the gun laws as they are in the US is always to shift the conversation to mental health issues, which creates even further stigma for a topic that very rarely gets any coverage in the mass media.
In his monologue, Oliver points out how this only serves to further the misconception that those who have mental health problems are prone to violent behaviour, and how the government has repeatedly failed to properly support an underfunded system.
