In what amounts to one of the most peculiar musical combinations of 2016, actor Michael J Fox joined forced with British band Coldplay on Sunday evening at the band’s concert in New Jersey. They performed together covers of the songs Earth Angel and Johnny B Goode, both of which feature in the Enchantment Under the Sea school dance in 1985’s Back to the Future.

Chris Martin, Coldplay’s lead singer, agreed to the unusual musical request made by his 10-year-old son Moses on a video clip. Moses revealed that Back to the Future is his and his father’s favourite film.

Coldplay started off with their cover of Earth Angel, originally performed by Marvin Berry & the Starlighters, introducing special guest Michael J Fox about two minutes into the performance – to the stunned delight of the New Jersey crowd at the MetLife Stadium.

Fox stayed on stage for a cover of Chuck Berry’s Johnny B Goode, recreating the iconic scene from the Robert Zemeckis film.

An unusual musical act, but one that the crowd and the performers both seemed to relish.
