The Castlerea Rose Festival in Roscommon has a huge program of events planned across the weekend after it kicked off on Wednesday.
From fancy dress to a 10K race, there's something for everyone in the family, but one of the most popular and more bizarre events that takes place is the pig race.
Every August Bank Holiday weekend, the swine take to the streets with puppet jockeys on their back, as they raced for glory on Friday night in the town.
A short video of the action was uploaded to Instagram by Trish Gormley, whose pig unfortunately did not place in the race, while Ruth Curtis also shared a snap of the race on Facebook.
My pig came last....again! #pig #racing. #roscommon #onlyinireland

The role of the pig in the festival as a whole is clearly quite a prominent one too, as this float from the parade which kicked off the celebrations shows.

There was also a fireworks display to celebrate the occasion, as the festival kicked into high gear over the weekend.
